What are HRC Fuses?
High Rupturing Capacity, that is HRC Fuses are similar to a standard fuse where the fuse wire carries a short circuit current up to a specific limit.
The HRC fuse is uniform and has a shallow tripping time feature if it has a high-pressure current. Similarly, the break time is extended if the fault current is low.
It is available in various sizes, shapes, and electrical specifications. They are meant to protect circuits if there is an over-current; these fuses burn and safely stop the current.
Main Types of HRC fuse
Below are mentioned three types of HRC fuses-
- NH Type Fuse
- DIN Type Fuse
- Blade Type Fuse

1- NH Type Fuse
NH type fuse is used when a fuse is required with a low and medium voltage. These fuses help to protect against situations like overload and short circuits.
This NH fuse protects the motor starters and other devices against overload and short circuits. These fuses are light in weight and made with a specific framework.
2- DIN Type Fuse
DIN type of HRC fuses can be found in a wide variety of voltages that are used to protect the transformer. These fuses are put to use according to different temperatures with different properties.
The main advantage of using DIN fuses is that its cleaning capacity is perfect with a short-circuit act. These are commonly used in air and mining, feeder partitioning, gas-insulated switchgear, and transformers.
3- Blade Type Fuse
Blade type of HRC fuses are commonly called plug I. These fuses are available with a plastic body and two metal caps to set in the socket. These are widely used in cars to protect against short circuits, wiring, and motors for backup protection.
Blade HRC fuses are generally light in weight and currently include low cutoffs. They are available in various sizes and shapes with the capacity of different current ratings.
HRC Fuse Ratings/Speeds and Sizes
HRC fuses are available in various element speeds ranging from a high-speed fuse called semiconductor protection to a low-acting fuse called motor protection.

The physical size of an HRC fuse varies depending on the applications and voltage rating. Like higher voltage ratings, HRC fuses generally have a longer body to reduce the likelihood of arcing within the fuse. However, for smaller, low voltage HRC cartridge fuses measure only 38mm in length, while for the medium voltage, HRC fuses can exceed 500mm in length.
Ratings of HRC fuses range from 2 to 1250 amperes, typically preferred.
